Tutorial: Getting Started with Fireworks
As you begin to learn how to use Fireworks to make web graphics,
you will learn how to open Fireworks, how to create a new
image, and how to save your image.
- Open Fireworks
- To open Fireworks, select the appropriate progression below:
On a Windows PC:

Fireworks will open with a blank screen and perhaps some panels.

To create a new image, follow this progression:
File
New
When you do so, the New Image dialog box will open, and you will be
able to select the size and background for your image. Once you've
set the properties for your image, click "OK".

- Save your image
- Saving your image is the most important part of this process.
This tutorial will stress the motto "Save early, save often." To save
your image:
File
Save
Select your web space (most likely your "I" drive) and type in the
name for the image file. Keep in mind that this is NOT the file that
will appear on the web, but Fireworks' data file for the image. Later
on, you will export the image in a web-friendly format. Right
now, we want to use Fireworks' PNG format:

Then click "OK." Your image is saved. The file name you chose will
appear be in the title bar of the image you are working on. (as shown below)
