Tutorial: Adding frames in Fireworks

Frames have many uses in Fireworks. In this case, we will use a second frame to create an alternate space for our rollover images, the images we'll add effects to. On this page, you'll learn how to open the frames panel in Fireworks and how to duplicate a frame to create a second image.

The frames panel allows you to see and manipulate your image's frames. To open the frames panel, follow this progression:

Or click the Frames tab at the top of the Layers panel, if the Layers panel is open. The Frames panel should open (shown at right).

Duplicate a frame
When you duplicate a frame, you copy all of the elements from the frame into a second frame right after the first one. Duplicating frames is fun and easy. Just follow these three steps:

  1. Find the arrow in the upper-right corner of the frame panel (below). Click this arrow to see the "arrow menu."
    Arrow Menu Icon
  2. Select "Duplicate Frame" from the arrow menu. A pop-up window will open (shown at right).
  3. Make sure "Number" says one frame and "After the current frame" selected, then click "OK."

A second frame will open after the first one. That second frame will most likely be the one selected. If the second frame is not selected, select it by clicking on it in the frames panel. The frame will turn blue to indicate that it is selected.
