Capturing video with Adobe Premiere is a great way to get stills or short quicktime videos for your digital projects. Our setup allows you to use either the VCR or the Laserdisc player as a source for your images. What follows are step-by-step instructions for video capture.
- Start Adobe Premiere by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop.
- click "OK" through the dialog boxes that start up. You will adjust some of these settings later.
- Get the Video to a spot a couple seconds before the moment you actually want to tape.
You may be given the option to "deactivate" appletalk at this time. Go ahead and do so if the computer asks you to.

- Press play on the VCR and click "Record" in the "Record" window. Once you're done recording your clip, click the mouse again to stop recording.
You won't be able to hear your clip while it is recording, but it will record the sound.
- The clip should open in a window titled "Clip: Untitled" or something like that.
- Save it in a folder with your name on it on the desktop.
Be aware that you should only capture short bursts of footage at a time. Depending on the rate at which you capture, your file will devour enormous amounts of filespace. The more concise you are, the better.
* You may use the Laserdisc player in place of the VCR in these directions.
