Freehand: Blending objects

Freehand's powerful blending tool allows you to make a series of objects between two principle objects. You can have the objects change as they move or you can have them conform to a path. This page touches on the basics of using Freehand to blend objects.

A blend is an operation that makes a series of images between two similar path objects. To make a blend, follow these steps:

  1. Make a duplicate of your object.
  2. Change the duplicate. (In our example, we scaled it down and flipped it upside down.)
  3. Select both the original path object and the duplicate path object.
  4. Click the Modify menu, choose Combine and Blend.

To alter the blend you just made, select it and choose the Object tab from the inspection panel. You will be able to change how many steps the blend makes (ours uses 25).

You can also join a blend to a path, giving your blend a curve or a strange course to take. To join a blend to a path, select both the blend and the path, click the Modify menu, then select Combine and Join blend to path. The path will become part of the blend (our example used an horizontal "S" shape.
