Flash: Binding to Paths

One of the easiest ways to make an animation run smoothly is to bind it to a path. This page uses the example referred to in our pages about keyframes and about tweening.

  1. Select the layer that your object is on (by clicking on it in the layer window). Click the "Insert" menu and select "Motion Guide." A Guide layer will appear.

  2. Select the guide layer and use the pencil tool or the pen tool to draw a path for your object to follow. We used the pen tool to create a curve (as shown).

  1. Now select your first keyframe and move your object to the beginning of the path you just created. Notice how the object is "bound" to the path.

  2. Do the same for each of your keyframes. Check your work to see how it looks.
