Flash: Animating Instances
Using Instances to do other kinds of Flash animation
Aside from movement, you can also animate size changes, color
changes, and fades in and out. To do this, you need to use symbols and instances. Below are three
examples of these animations, and one step-by-step walkthrough.
To make an effects animation, you need to use a symbol and the
effects panel, along with the tweening function. Below are
details.
- Make an object. Convert it to a symbol (see our page about symbols for details).
- Use transformation tools to change the size or orientation of
your instance, or use the effects panel (shown right) to alter the
look of your instance.
Brightness: the amount of white or black added to the instance
Tint: mixes the instance with a color
Alpha: allows the instance to be made partially or wholly transparent
- Add a keyframe (or keyframes) as with motion animation. Alter
the instance after the keyframe again. (Repeat as necessary)
- Select all the sections of your animation, click the "Insert"
menu and select "Create Motion Tween." The gray areas will be
replaced with arrows.
Of course, the above are just the tip of the iceberg. You can
combine effects to have objects that fade in or out as they move,
change color, etc. These pages provide just a small overview of how
to do animation with Flash. For more help, see the macromedia
tutorials and manuals in the IMAGE lab.
