Fireworks: Tools

Fireworks has a variety of tools available for you to use when making Web graphics. If you are making extremely complex graphics or doing a lot of drawing, you may want to consider starting your graphics in Freehand, which is a little more versatile, and then continuing to work on them in Fireworks.

Select Tools
Fireworks has a variety of selection tools that allow you to select multiple paths or parts of a bitmap image. These can be useful for filling, shading, masking, or any other alteration you'd like to make.

Crop Tool
The crop tool allows you to crop (from the term for cutting a photograph) images in rectangular ways.

Line Tool
line tool The line tool draws a straight line. The line begins at the point where you begin dragging the mouse and ends at the point where you release the mouse.

Shape Tool
shape tool The shape tool allows you to easily make a polygon with as few as 3 sides or as many as 20.

Pencil Tool
pencil tool The pencil tool allows you to draw a line by dragging the mouse. The line will be transformed into a path when you release the mouse button.

Pen Tool
pen tool The pen tool allows you to make a straight or curved line by clicking from one key point to the next, dragging handles when you need to adjust the angle of the curve.

Text Tool
The text tool allows you to make and edit text in your image.

Brush Tool
brush tool The brush tool works much like the pencil tool, except the shape and density of the line drawn is determined by the brush tip you select.
