Fireworks: Resizing an image
Using Fireworks to resize is relatively simple. Nonetheless, the
process of resizing is important for any image that you want to be
web-friendly. Fireworks has many tools to help make your image look
good without using too much bandwidth.
To resize your image using fireworks, simply follow these
steps:
- Open the image -- You can open the image by selecting
the File menu and choosing Open.... Select the
image you want to resize from the dialog box that appears.
- View image at full size -- Often, Fireworks will
display a large image as though it were smaller. To make sure that
your resize looks the way you want it to, be sure the display is set
to 100 percent. Select the display size by clicking on the drop-down menu at the bottom of the
screen and choosing 100%.
- Crop the image -- Sometimes you will want to exclude
some of the image from your final web version of it. To crop the
image, select the crop tool from the toolbar (right) and outline
section of the image you want to keep. Once you've got the
area you want to keep selected, double-click on it to crop away the
rest of the image.

the Modify menu and choose Image size.... A dialog
box will appear (right). Change the image size by selecting either
Pixels or Percent and filling in the new value in
the text box. Notice that if you change the "Height" attribute, the
"Width" changes too. When you're done, click "OK" to see the final
result.
- Export the image -- Once you have changed the image
size, you need to save the new image. To do so, select the
File menu and choose Export.... Select a name
for your image that is different than the name for the original
and then save your image to your web directory (I:).
