IMaGE Lab: Saving data to the network from Windows PCs
You have two options when you choose to save data to the network
from one of the Windows PCs (the black IBM intellistations): the first
is to save the data to your home directory, otherwise known as your
"H" drive; the second is to save the data to your web directory, or
your "I" drive.
Saving data to your "H" drive
You can save data directly to your "H" drive from most any program
you want to use in the IMAGE Lab. To save to your "H:" drive:
- Choose "Save As..." from the "File" menu of the program you are working with.
- Click the "up folder" icon (looks like a manilla folder with an
up-arrow in it) until the "Save in" window says "My Computer"
- Now, from the list of choices, select your (H:) drive.
- Select any additional folders to save in as well.
Saving data to your "I" drive
If you are working on documents for the web, you may want to save
them straight to your web space. To save to that space, you need
merely do the following:
- Choose "Save As..." from the "File" menu of the program you are working with.
- Click the "up folder" icon (looks like a manilla folder with an
up-arrow in it) until the "Save in" window says "My Computer"
- Now, from the list of choices, select your (I:) drive.
- Select any additional folders to save in as well.
- You may now view your documents from the web. For example, if
username's document foo.html were saved on her "I"
drive, it would be visible at:
http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/username/foo.html
Saving data to your UNIX filespace
To save data to your UNIX filespace, you will need to save your
data in your "H" drive and then use FTP to
transfer your files.
