UNIX sound controls
The sdtaudiocontroller allows you to control the sounds on
your SUN workstation. While the controls are relatively rudimentary,
so are the sound facilities in the IMAGE lab.

Starting the audio controller
- Open an xterm
shell by clicking on the IMAGE menu and selecting "Local X Term
Shell."
- At the command line, type the following command:
sdtaudiocontrol &
- After a few moments, the sdtaudiocontroller window will open
(see image right). You may close the xterm shell.
Using the audio controller
- Volume
- To control the volume for the built-in speaker, use the mouse to
slide the volume bar up or down.
- Balance
- Since the SUN workstations use a single internal speaker, you do not
need to use the Balance control.
- Mute
- If you don't want any sound to play, click the Mute box to turn
off sound entirely.
- Application Controls
- Some applications feature additional sound controls. To turn such
controls on, click the "View" menu and select "Application
Controls."
